The Shattered Radiant is the first in a series of fantasy books that follows an irreverent archaeologist by the name of Artemis Stark, an adventurer who comes into possession of a mysterious artefact that is linked to the spirit of a girl from ancient Palmyra, who can only inhabit animals.

Choosing to accompany Artemis by possessing a cat, together they unwillingly end up in a race against time to search for a series of powerful stones, each granting abilities Artemis struggles to control. The situation turns deadly when a mysterious antagonist arrives at the museum where Artemis works and murders the director using one of the stones.

Their epic journey takes them across the Americas, Europe, and Africa and even through time to the 1700s. As the story unfolds, the stones are revealed to be part of an ancient prophecy tied to advanced technology from a previous version of Earth, connected to a mysterious device called the Radiant. This discovery uncovers a far greater threat: an alien race that was nearly wiped out by humanity billions of years ago and is now heading their way.

The Shattered Radiant - opinie o książce

" [...] The anger could be felt even through the brief moment of silence between question and answer, like a tsunami about to happen... [...]"

It is hard to believe that "The Shattered Radiant" is Luca Ottonello's literary debut. I did not expect to encounter a story that spans so many genres. I spotted elements of crime fiction, thrillers, fantasy, science fiction, adventure, and historical fiction, among others. All these elements intertwine seamlessly to form a cohesive whole. Against all odds, the author manages to offer something for every type of reader.

You will also experience a real emotional rollercoaster. The story is packed with danger and unexpected plot twists. From the very first pages, the author plunges the reader into a perilous vortex full of unforgettable traps.

You have no idea how exciting it is. I envy those of you who are about to pick up this book and discover the story for yourselves.

The author draws on his extensive archaeological background in "The Shattered Radiant," crafting a unique plot. He has created a world where myth and history blend with advanced technology. The novel takes us across continents and even back in time. Which continents will we visit, and which era will we travel to? For obvious reasons, I won't reveal that here. You'll find out for yourselves as you read.

The novel's greatest strength is, of course, its protagonist: the rebellious archaeologist Artemis Stark. His cynical yet charismatic approach to life provides a perfect counterpoint to the dark and often terrifying events in which he becomes entangled. He comes into possession of an artifact linked to the spirit of an ancient girl capable of possessing animals only. Which animal will have to lend her its body this time? Sarcastic dialogue and witty banter effectively diffuse the thickening, deadly atmosphere, making them well worth a closer look.

At times, the sheer number of plot threads and shifts in time and space might make the reader's head spin, yet the book holds its own thanks to its excellent pacing and unique atmosphere.

As the first volume in "The Shattered Saga," "The Shattered Radiant" by Luca Ottonello has perfectly whetted my appetite for more. I am already eagerly anticipating the next installment and hope the author won't keep us waiting for too long. This is a must-read for anyone who appreciates unconventional heroes, mysteries from the past, and intercontinental adventures. I highly recommend it! You won't be disappointed.
