For courses in Diversity offered in business or humanities departments. Also ideal for special topics courses in Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, and Human Relations. Combining varied readings, real-world cases and thought-provoking exercises, Understanding and Managing Diversity prepares today's students to enter an increasingly broad workplace where diversity must not only be accepted, but also understood. Broad definition of diversity-From primary (race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical/mental abilities and age) to include secondary aspects of diversity (religion, communication, military experience, international work experience, etc.).  Popular material from the previous editions-Includes "Cracker Barrel," "Briarwood Industries," "Distinguishing Differences and Conflict," and "Workforce IQ" for both the American and Canadian versions.  Difficult to find, original diversity material-Fills many gaps in courses related to diversity and includes topics such as religion, Native Americans, non-profit organizations, Generation X, employment equity in Canada, personality disorders under the ADA law, social class, and innovative models for employing older workers.  Experiential material-Includes exercises on communication, values clarification, Generation X, and gender in office politics, etc.  Text reorganization-Into three logical sections: individual, group and organizational perspectives on diversity. Each section is a blend of suitable readings, cases and exercises from these perspectives.  New and revised readings, exercises, and cases-New cases such as Ford in Mexico (Muller) and Coca-Cola (Harvey); web-based exercises such as Evaluating Organizational Commitment to Diversity: Auditing Organizational Websites (Harvey), Exploring Religious Diversity (Sherer); new readings such as Intercultural Communication: A Current Perspective, The Negative Consequences of Male Privilege, Diversity in the Workplace: Ethics, Pragmatism or Some of Both?. Provides students with up-to-date material from which to learn and apply to the real world. Instructors Manual-Available on-line for adopters only. Material includes sample syllabi, matrices for incorporating the readings, cases and exercises text into Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, and Management courses. Teaching tips, website resources, suggestions for related assignments, answers to discussion questions, a list of suggested video resources, Power Point slides, etc. Provides instructor support, which many of the trade books dont offer. Pedagogical aids updated-Such as longer out-of-class writing assignments; assessment assignments at the end of each of the three major sections of the text; more web-related exercises. Provide students with learning enhancements by placing emphasis on development of critical thinking skills.
